Born in England in 1749, William Faden was possibly one of the best map-makers alive during his time. Originally, Faden was trained as an engraver, but longed to be in map making. He was hired by Thomas Jeffreys and was able to buy the business later on after the death Jeffreys, later naming the company Faden & Jeffery's'.
Faden is known for making maps of North America, and most notably of the colonies that settled in the U.S. He also created a North American Atlas. His maps were high quality and accurate as he had access to the best and most recent information. During the American War of Independence, Faden created detailed maps of battle plans. His talents did not go unnoticed and at one time he was hired as a Geographer for the King.
Today, William Faden's maps are sought after by collectors and originals have a very high value.
