Very well done. Has significant application to clinical practice, especially for procedures and understanding body bio mechanics / function / planes & ranges of motion of varoius joints.

Highly recommend it. The knowledge is very valuable & practical application of same rewarding / satisfying.

The cadaver disection is almost like a work of art. It is not gross or stomach turning at all. If you are preparing for a career and you need this type of video – get this one. The main menu is a little tricky to navigate, but the quality and naration is unbeatable. Get the whole set, I will probably never NEED the internal organs for what I am studying to do, but you never know. Great value for the money too.

First and most importantly the disection in this atlas is simply amazing. The bodies are fresh – not preserved – which makes such a huge difference in the appearance of the structures. The plastic body exhibits are the only comparison one can make.

That said this is SLOW going. The production quality is poor. The narrator(Dr. Acland) is obviously a professional anatomist and not a professional voice actor. That was an enormous mistake. While his ability to display the structures is beyond question he belongs behind a probe not in mic.

The menu system on each disk is quite poor. The table of contents and index do not navigate as one would expect them to.

Finally surface anatomy and muscle action are frequently demonstrated on a child in a blue spandex outfit that lends a creepy feeling to the whole atlas.

While none of these problems lessen the quality of visualization each does detract from the usability of this high quality visualization tool.

This video series gives you a way to understand how we’re put together that 2D illustrations just can’t. Dr. Ackland isolates bones, tendons and ligaments, muscles and nerves on a fresh cadaver. He describes our physiology beginning with the skelaton and bony landmarks, going layer by layer through the body system to the outermost muscles. Its like being at a dissection with a perfect view and infinitely patient professor (with replay). Although his presentation is dry, the material Ackland presentsis so fascinating and clearly presented that I give this 5 stars. Its a huge effort done very well. When he shows ( using the cadaver) how the muscle or muscle groups function, that is the coolest part.

With 6 DVDs in the series I’ve only watched 2 so far, and I am finding this series very helpful in getting to know the body better. It’s a very helpful anatomy study tool. I appreciate how easy to is to navigate through the videos to refer to a particular muscle (or other body part or system detail) I want to study.

This set of DVDs is transformed from Acland’s preeminent Video Atlas of Anatomy series. It is an extremely navigable learning tool with even higher quality audio and visual resolution. The DVDs are based on true dissected specimens. They are particularly useful for those who need to learn anatomy but have few or no chance to do dissection. I also know some people who want to learn anatomy but they refuse to dissect bodies. For these people, Acland’d DVDs are ideal tools. [...]

I contacted Dr. Acland via his website, and suggested him to make a script of the DVDs. He is very kind and quickly prepare a sample for me. I find that the script can help me not only with understanding his explanation in the DVDs, but also with remembering the details. I even printed his script and took them with me in the subway. I read it, and at the same time try to recall the images in the DVDs. I find it is a very good way to remember so many anatomical terms and structures.

The scripts are now available for download!
